By a deal contained in the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) Amendment, Colorado state started offering refunds of $750 in August — and $1,500 for married couples filing jointly — according to CNET.
By September 30, 2022, you should get your check if you haven’t already done so and file your state tax return for 2021 by June 30.
The Middle-Class Tax Refund was included in the 2022-23 budget authorized by Gov. Gavin Newsom. According to CNET, Residents in California could anticipate receiving a debit card or direct transfer in the mail in October.

The Virginia Department of Taxation began mailing checks in mid-September. According to CNET, if you reside in Virginia, paid taxes by July 1, 2022, are qualified for money and haven’t gotten it, you should receive it by October 31, 2022.

the state’s $1.83 billion tax relief plan, Illinois taxpayers, may have already gotten a paper check. According to the plan, individuals earning less than $200,000 in 2021 will receive $50.

State Stimulus Checks In 2022
Who receives a check, how extensive the check is, and when the check arrives vary by state. This year, several governments are sending more than one payment.
Who Qualifies: People that filed a 2021 Colorado income tax return or requested a Colorado property tax/rent/heat credit (PTC) refund and were Colorado residents for the whole 2021 calendar year must be 18 years or older as of the end of December 31, 2021, to be eligible for “Cash Back” payments (opens in new tab).
Amount: The amount is determined by the filing status on your 2021 Colorado tax return: Single taxpayers pay $750, while joint filers pay $1,500.
When Issued: If you submitted a 2021 Colorado income tax return or asked for a PTC rebate by June 30, 2022, payments were made by September 30, 2022. If you get an addition to file your 2021 Colorado return and file by the deadline of October 17, 2022, your payment will be prorated by January 31, 2023.
Who Qualifies: You are eligible for a full Connecticut “Child Tax Rebate” if you meet the following criteria:
- You are a state resident;
- You listed at least one kid under the age of 18 as a dependant on your 2021 federal income tax return;
- Your federal adjusted gross income for 2021 does not exceed $100,000 for single taxpayers and married couples filing separately, $160,000 for head-of-household filers, and $200,000 for married couples filing jointly and qualified widows (er)s.
Amount: The refund is worth up to $250 per child for three children (a total of $750). You may be eligible for a lower rebate if your income exceeds the appropriate level.
When Issued: Child Tax Rebate applications were due on July 31, 2022. The state began issuing rewards to people who applied before the deadline in late August.
Who is Eligible: The “Middle-Class Tax Refund” in California is generally offered to current residents who:
- By October 15, 2021, you must have filed your 2020 California tax return.
- Did not exceed specified income thresholds in 2020 (California adjusted gross income of more than $250,000 for single persons and married couples filing separate tax returns, or more than $500,000 for others);
- We were California residents for at least six months in 2020 and Couldn’t be claimed as dependent on someone else’s 2020 tax year.
Amount: $200 to $1,050, depending on income, filing status, and the number of dependents. The California Franchise Tax Board provides an online tool that estimates your payment amount (opens in a new tab).
When Issued: If you got a Golden State Stimulus (GSS) payment by direct deposit last year or early this year, you will get your California Middle-Class Tax Refund payment between October 7 and October 25, 2022. (again, via direct deposit).
Additional direct deposit payments to others will be made between October 28 and November 14 (about 90% of all direct deposits should be given in October 2022).
The state will issue Middle-Class Tax Refund debit cards to persons who received a GSS payment via debit card between October 24 and December 10, 2022. Others receiving debit card payments could receive them in the mail by January 15, 2023.
Who Qualifies: Approximately 59,000 Florida households with children were eligible for a one-time payment. To be eligible for a payout as of July 1, 2022, you had to be:
- Foster caretaker;
- Participant in the Guardianship Assistance Program;
- TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipient;
- Or a relative caregiver
- Non-family caregiver
Amount of $450 per household.
When Issued: The payments were sent in July 2022. Suppose you believe you should have received a check but did not.
In that case, you will be required to identify the qualifying program in which you are enrolled, the date you initially registered in the program, the number of children in your home (together with their names and ages), and the programs in which the children are enrolled.
Who is Eligible: Georgia is issuing tax refunds to full-year residents who filed a Georgia income tax return for 2020 and 2021. Even if you file both returns, you will not receive a check if you:
- When submitting a return, you can use an “Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)” (but you may qualify for a refund after replying to a letter from the Georgia Department of Revenue);
- owed no taxes in 2020;
- It was claimed as a dependant on the 2020 tax return of someone else.
Amount: The maximum refund for single taxpayers and married individuals filing jointly in 2020 is $500; for head-of-household filers, it is $375; and for single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately, it is $250. You are only eligible for the amount of tax you reported on your 2020 return.
When they were sent: The first refund checks were mailed in May 2022. The Georgia DOR anticipated that most payments would be issued by August.
However, your money will not be delivered until you file your Georgia tax return for 2021. As a result, your payment will be delayed if you haven’t filed for the 2021 tax year.
Who is Eligible: Delaware “Relief Rebates” are available to resident adults who submitted a 2020 Delaware personal income tax return. Other individuals who submitted their Delaware tax returns on time in 2021 or who are at least 18 years, according to other state agency statistics, are also eligible.
Amount: Relief Rebate payments are worth $300 per qualifying individual.
When it was sent: The first payment batch was sent in May 2022. During the summer, qualified residents received additional money. The state is also working on a procedure allowing adult Delaware citizens who did not submit a 2020 tax return to receive a reimbursement.
Who is Eligible: This year, Idaho is providing two tax refunds. The payments are only available to full-year residents who submit their 2020 and 2021 Idaho income tax forms by the end of 2022. It also counts if you submitted a form for a food credit refund even though you weren’t obliged to file an Idaho return for those years.
Amount: The first tax refund of the year is equal to the lesser of the following two amounts: (1) $75 per family member (i.e., the taxpayer and each dependent); or (2) 12% of the total tax liability on your 2020 Idaho return, excluding credits, “other” taxes, payments, and gifts.
The second rebate, commonly known as the “Special Session Rebate,” is equal to the lesser of 10% of the tax owed on your 2020 Idaho return before credits, “other” taxes, payments, gifts, or the greater of $300 for all other taxpayers or $600 for married couples filing a joint return.
When Issued: The state began sending the first wave of refunds in March 2022, with most of the payouts already sent. In late September, they began sending out the second tranche of payments.
Idaho distributes them to qualified people according to the date their 2021 tax return was submitted. Paper checks will be provided after direct deposit payments. Rebate payments will be made as residents file their tax returns through 2022 and 2023.
The IRS has verified that the distribution of economic impact payments (stimulus cheques) has begun, and millions of Americans should have received their checks by now.

Who Gets A Stimulus Check In 2022?
To qualify for the payment, taxpayers must make $100,000 or less ($200,000 or less for a couple with two incomes). Distribution of Child Tax Rebate checks started on October 3.
Refunds will begin to be given to those who filed their 2021 state tax forms on the extension by October 2022, commencing in December.
